Designing an app to find workout partners nearby
Kompis is an app project that emphasizes the convenience of discovering exercise partners in your area, fostering a community-focused approach to staying fit
Sticking to a regular exercise routine can be tough. Our motivation levels can vary, and it's easy to lose focus and fall off track. But did you know that having a workout partner can help you stay on course? Researchers from the University of Southern California found that people who worked out with friends, family or acquaintances said they enjoyed the exercise more than those who sweat it out alone.
However, finding someone to exercise with isn't always easy, particularly when you're traveling for work or don't have any like-minded friends nearby. This is where the Kompis app comes in. It's designed to help you find available and compatible workout partners no matter where you are.
Building on this need, the goal of this project was to create an inviting, user-friendly platform that not only makes it easier for users to find workout buddies but also cultivates a community atmosphere.

User Research
At the start of the design process, we conducted surveys and interviews to understand our users' needs and behaviors. Additionally, a competitive analysis was performed to identify the strengths and weaknesses of existing fitness apps. Key findings highlighted the importance of motivation, safety preferences—particularly among women—and the need for skill-level matching and flexible scheduling.
User Personas
As we dived deeper into the design process of the Kompis app, we now turn our focus to three distinct user personas. These personas, crafted from user insights, embody the varied backgrounds, fitness goals, and challenges faced by our target users when it comes to workout.
User Story Map
Following our research and persona creation, we structured our user story map to meticulously organize the app’s information architecture, detailing user activities down to specific tasks.
This process aligns the app’s features with identified user needs, prioritizing development to focus on the MVP which includes essential features like quick registration, basic partner matching, and initial workout scheduling.
Insights from the mapping emphasized the need for flexibility in scheduling and the importance of community engagement, which are planned for enhancement in subsequent releases. These phases are designed to introduce more personalized features and advanced community functions, based on user feedback and initial usage data.

Wireframes & Mockups
During the wireframing process, we created low-fidelity wireframes to outline the app's structure and functionality. Following this, we developed high-fidelity wireframes, incorporating detailed design elements for both light and dark modes, to ensure a polished and versatile user experience.
